Aviation Development: FUTIA Deepen Commitment to Partner Ibom Air

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi(FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel has pledged the commitment of the University to partner airlines operating in the country through the training of man-power needs in the aviation industry.

The FUTIA Vice Chancellor made the remarks on behalf of the University on Tuesday 1st September 2026 during the official reception/Water Canon Ceremonies for the Brand-New Airbus A220-300 Series Aircraft procured by the Akwa Ibom State Government for Ibom Air held at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State

“As Ibom Air is expanding and increasing her fleets, routes and operations, the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), is strategically positioned and committed to training various categories of man-power needed to drive the aviation sector”, the FUTIA VC stressed.

“Our flagship degree programme in the University is Aerospace Engineering and we are positioned to playing critical role in the growth of the industry to exemplify Institutional-industry collaboration”, the VC added.

Professor Daniel who is the first Professor of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering in Nigeria used the occasion to congratulate the Akwa Ibom government led by the Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno and the management of Ibom Air for the huge investment in the aviation sector which has given Ibom Air a pride of place in the sub national and the nation at large with increasing international routes, service and value addition to stakeholders.

The University Don expressed the readiness of the Institution to partner Ibom Air and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development (at the State and federal levels) to advance the frontiers of government’s vision in the sector.

The Vice Chancellor seized the opportunity to woo investors and stakeholders to partner the University in her ongoing efforts to establish an Aerodrome for the training, retraining, learning and research by the students of the flagship Aerospace Engineering in the University and other players in the sector with a view to growing indigenous man-power for the sector.

Governor Umo Eno Urges Media Organisations on Positive Projection of Nigeria’s Image

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged media organisations nationwide, including C54 News, owned by Future One Africa Network (FOAN), to positively project Nigeria’s image and uphold objectivity and credibility as core values of news reportage.

Governor Eno gave the charge on Monday, August 31, 2026, when he received the management team of C54 News on a courtesy visit to his office at Government House, Uyo.

The Governor welcomed the media organisation’s plan to establish its operational headquarters in Akwa Ibom and assured the team of the state government’s support and partnership.

He urged the organisation to be deliberate in promoting the positive ideals of Nigeria and Africa, while maintaining professional standards in its coverage of events.

“We look forward to working with you and, apart from projecting Africa, we also want you to positively project our country, Nigeria,” the Governor said.

Governor Eno also charged the media organisation to maintain balance and neutrality in its reportage.

He urged C54 News to provide the public with balanced and impartial reports based on thorough investigation, stressing that credibility and public trust were essential to the sustainability of any media organisation.

“Some media organisations today, when you listen to them, you will quickly know that their news reports are seriously tilted to suit the interests of the owners and their political leanings.

“So, strive to be a news channel that is neutral and non-partisan in every issue reported to the public in order to earn their support and patronage through credible and responsible journalism,” he said.

According to the Governor, the media should play the role of a referee by ensuring fairness and transparency in public discourse.

“The media should be like a referee, simply to ensure a transparent and fair play of the match in order to win the trust and confidence of the listening and reading public,” he added.

Governor Eno commended FOAN for choosing Uyo as the location for the headquarters of C54 News, describing the decision as a positive development for the State.

Earlier, the FOAN team leader, Prof. Agbo Madaki, who represented the Chairman of the organisation, Prof. Pat Utomi, commended Governor Eno for what he described as his visionary and impactful leadership in Akwa Ibom State.

Madaki said Akwa Ibom could serve as a model for other states in the federation in sustainable development and infrastructural advancement.

He disclosed that C54 News was being established as “Africa’s first truly digital news network,” built from the continent for Africans and a global audience.

He said the international headquarters of the media organisation would be established in Akwa Ibom State, citing the state’s development strides and investment in modern infrastructure.

Madaki specifically commended the Governor for projects and facilities including the international hospital, international convention centre, international airport terminal and other world-class infrastructure.

Other members of the FOAN delegation were Idris-Etanami Usman, Obong Umana Okon Umana, CON, Chief Grace Ihonvbere, Reverend Barnabas Arcastus, Mr Fidelis Mbah, Onyekachi Emenogu and Yobo Tiffany Omoike.

Tinubu to Commission Landmark Projects as Akwa Ibom Celebrates 39th Anniversary

The Akwa Ibom State Government has unveiled a month-long programme of activities to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the creation of the state, with 39 landmark projects scheduled for commissioning across the state between September 1 and 30, 2026.
The anniversary celebration, themed “Gratitude,” is anchored on the biblical passage, “Give Thanks to the Lord, For He is Good; For His Mercy Endures Forever” from Psalm 136:1 (KJV).

The programme, released by the state government, highlights the administration’s achievements under the ARISE Agenda 1.0, with project commissioning ceremonies spread across several Local Government Areas.

According to the government, the anniversary provides an opportunity for the people of Akwa Ibom to thank God for His faithfulness while celebrating the state’s growth, development and achievements over the past 39 years.

A major highlight of the celebration will be the expected visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who is scheduled to inaugurate some of the state’s major landmark projects.

Among the projects listed for commissioning by the President are the International Airport Hospital, International Terminal Building, 3.8km Parallel Taxiway and Rapid Exit New Apron, 1.8km Airport Access Road and Aviation Village at the Victor Attah International Airport.

Others include the 14.5km Airport–Okopedi Road in Nsit Atai and Okobo Local Government Areas; 7.868km Ring Road 3, linking Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo and Ibiono Ibom; the Command and Control Centre; Governor’s Office Annex; AkwaGIS Building; and ARISE Palm Resort.

The month-long programme will commence on Tuesday, September 1, with the official reception and cannon water ceremony for the brand-new Airbus A220-300 acquired for Ibom Air at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo. A September 2026 Covenant Service will also hold later that day.

Other activities include the commissioning of primary healthcare centres, model primary schools, ARISE Youth Development Centres, road projects and erosion control facilities across different parts of the state.

The programme also features the commissioning of the 6.475km roads in Amanyam Community, Ikot Abasi; ARISE Youth Development Centre in Ikono; Model Primary School in Nsit Atai; Model Primary Health Centre in Abak; Model Primary School in Obot Akara; Model Health Centre in Esit Eket, among others.

Also scheduled are the commissioning of major road infrastructure, including the 5.5km Udo Inwang Road and erosion control facilities in Uyo, the 14.8km internal roads and spurs in Awa, Onna, and the 10.83km Mkpat Enin–Ikot Ekpe–Ikot Afang–Ikot Umiang–Mbioto–Efa Road and spur to Ikot Enyienge, including a 30-metre bridge.

The celebration will also feature the 39th Anniversary Interdenominational Service, a visit to the State Traditional Rulers’ Council, the State Anniversary Banquet and the unveiling/turning of sod for the construction of the International Market in Ikot Ekpene.

The state government called on sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom, as well as friends, associates and well-wishers, to participate fully in the anniversary celebration.
