FAAC Demands Full N200 Billion Remittance From NNPCL

FAAC Demands Full N200 Billion Remittance From NNPCL
FAAC demands full N200 billion remittance from NNPCL. The Forum of Commissioners of Finance under the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) is demanding that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) fully remit an outstanding N200 billion to the federation account.
According to the forum, NNPCL has made only one incomplete remittance of less than N200 billion since October 2024. This shortfall has stalled FAAC’s monthly revenue-sharing meeting, delaying crucial financial allocations to states and local governments.
Akin Oyebode, Chairman of the Finance Commissioners’ Forum, stated that NNPCL is responsible for making three types of payments: royalties to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), taxes to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and dividends to the federation as a shareholder.
He stressed that FAAC states require sufficient funds to meet their obligations, making complete remittances essential.
The delay has prompted a reconciliation process to determine whether the federation owes NNPCL or vice versa. Oyebode emphasized that until this is resolved, NNPCL should fulfill its financial duties without delay.
Discussions between FAAC representatives and NNPCL are ongoing, with hopes of concluding the reconciliation and establishing a payment plan within weeks.
The stalled FAAC meeting is expected to be reconvened soon, provided NNPCL presents a reasonable financial position. Oyebode reassured that both parties are working towards a mutual agreement, downplaying any notion of conflict.
This situation stems from President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy in October 2024, which has brought transparency to financial discussions that were previously overshadowed by subsidy payments.
If the federation is found to owe NNPCL, revenue allocations may need adjustments. Conversely, if NNPCL owes the federation, a repayment plan will be required.
The matter is expected to be fully resolved before the end of 2025. As of press time, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, had yet to respond to inquiries regarding the issue.

FAAC
FAAC, chaired by the Minister of Finance, includes state finance commissioners, accountants-general, and other key financial officials.
The committee is responsible for allocating federally collected revenues, with the federal government receiving 52.68%, states 26.72%, and local governments 20.60%.

Customs Seizes 34,470L Of Smuggled Petrol At Taraba-Cameroon Border
Customs seizes 34,470L of Smuggled petrol at Taraba-Cameroon border. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified its crackdown on fuel smuggling, seizing 34,470 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and a heavy-duty transportation truck in a three-hour operation along the Taraba-Cameroon border.
The enforcement, led by the Customs’ Operation Whirlwind unit, targeted smugglers operating through Gembu and Kan-Iyaka in Sardauna LGA, a known smuggling corridor.
Speaking at a public auction in Jalingo, Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed that the operation was carried out with support from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Adeniyi explained that intelligence from the inter-agency intelligence fusion center detected unusual fuel movement patterns in the Sorofi and Kan-Iyaka areas between March 8 and 9, 2025.
Acting on this, field teams executed a series of coordinated interceptions, disrupting what appeared to be an emerging smuggling route.
The seizure included 1,149 Jerry cans of PMS, each containing 30 liters, totaling 34,470 liters. A specialized transportation truck valued at ₦4 million was also confiscated, bringing the total duty-paid value to ₦37.78 million.
Adeniyi noted that a significant portion of the smuggled fuel was intercepted in Gembu, while 180 Jerry cans and the truck were seized en route to the Kan-Iyaka border crossing.

Cameroon Border
Describing fuel smuggling as a threat to national security and economic stability, Adeniyi urged security agencies to remain vigilant. He stressed that petrol is vital to economic activities and warned that shortages could slow down the economy.
He reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to tackling smuggling networks and safeguarding Nigeria’s energy sector and economic interests.
