Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT Hsnds Over Nine Suspected Stowaways to Immigration
On Friday 21 August 2026, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT handed over 9 suspected stowaways rescued from a merchant vessel, MT EVGENIA, to the Nigeria Immigration Service.

For clarity, a stowaway is a person who conceals themselves aboard a vessel with the intention of travelling illegally to another country without authorisation. The handover forms part of ongoing collaborative efforts among security agencies to curb illegal migration and enhance maritime safety and security.
The suspects were discovered on Wednesday 19 August 2026, concealed within the propeller compartment of the vessel. They were safely evacuated and conveyed to NNS BEECROFT for preliminary investigation and profiling. Initial findings identified the suspects as Thompson Vincent (23), Emmanuel Philip (24), Tobi Olalekan (32), Omotayo Adebowale (43), Abdullahi Idowu (21), Tunde Mustapha (19), Jamiu Ismaila (25), Ibrahim Alabi (30) and Christian Kadiri (22). Further investigations revealed that the suspects boarded MT EVGENIA while the vessel was berthed alongside Flour mills jetty Apapa with the intention of travelling to Europe illegally. Parents, guardians, and other authority figures within society are therefore advised to discourage youths from attempting to board seagoing vessels illegally. As demonstrated by this incident, the dangers associated with such acts extends beyond Nigeria and affect other countries along the West Coast of Africa.

It is pertinent to note that NNS BEECROFT, under my command, will continue to actualise the mission of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), which is to deploy a highly motivated and professional naval force capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests and contributing effectively to joint operations in defence of national sovereignty and the maintenance of internal stability.

Nigerian Navy Foils Illegal Refining Comeback, Recovers 103,000 Litres in Rivers
Nigerian Navy Foils Illegal Refining Comeback, Recovers 103,000 Litres in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has frustrated attempts by criminal elements to revive illegal refining activities in Rivers State, with personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER disrupting three illegal refining sites and recovering approximately 103,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) around the Ohaji axis of Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.
Eereporter.com
The operation, conducted on 22 August 2026 following credible intelligence, uncovered 12 dugout pits, sacks and reservoirs containing the suspected illegally refined products, alongside two pumping machines.
The intervention comes barely a week after NNS PATHFINDER disrupted two illegal refining sites within the same general area on 15 August 2026. The successive interventions have constrained efforts to rebuild illegal refining infrastructure, with a noticeable decline in the reactivation of such sites.
The illegal refining sites, recovered products and associated equipment were handled in accordance with established anti-crude oil theft procedures. No arrest was made as the operators had fled before the arrival of the naval troops.
The latest success demonstrates the impact of sustained naval pressure on the infrastructure that enables illegal refining and crude oil theft, thereby denying criminal elements the capacity to restore their illicit operations.

Nigerian Navy
The Nigerian Navy remains committed to sustaining Operation DELTA SENTINEL to protect Nigeria’s oil and gas assets, disrupt economic sabotage and create a secure environment for legitimate production and investment.

EFCC Grills Raheem Abiodun Wasiu for Alleged $12,000 Fraud in Enugu
Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have commenced investigations into the activities of one Raheem Abiodun Wasiu, an alleged serial fraudster, for an alleged case of fraud to the tune of $12,000 (Twelve Thousand United States Dollars).

Wasiu, 38, was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, following a complaint by one Ezekulie Stanley Chukwuamuanya, a Bureau De Change operator who claimed that he was defrauded the sum of $5000 (Five Thousand United States Dollars) by the suspect.
In the course of investigation by operatives of the EFCC, it was discovered that the suspect rents different Toyota Hilux trucks, disguises as a wealthy contractor, moves with escorts and meets BDC operators in the south-east and allegedly tricks them into parting with their had earned money, by presenting fake alerts in Naira to them, after collecting their money.
According to Chukwumuanya, “I gave him the dollar and he counted it by himself. After confirmation, he then asked for my bank details. After giving him my account number, he mentioned my name that popped up on his bank application, I confirmed it. The next thing he told me was that it had gone through, which I waited for the alert to come, to no avail. Because of time, he asked me to go and that I will get it, that it could be network issues and I left because of his personality”. He alleged that soon after that, the suspect became incommunicado.
Another petitioner, based in Owerri, Imo State, one Chief Nwaoha Ubaferem equally alleged that Wasiu defrauded him of the sum of $7,000. He said, “the dollar on me was $2,600, then I called my office to bring additional $4,400 to me to complete it as he requested for $7,000. As we were waiting, he complained that he was running late and we decided to move to Royce Road from Port Harcourt Road where he finally collected the money from me, resumed transfer, called my name and informed me that the transfer had gone which I believed but continued to expect alert from him”.

EFCC
Further investigations revealed that the suspect has toured the South-east, and Akwa Ibom State, using the same pattern to allegedly defraud BDC operators.
Items recovered from the suspect include: A Hilux truck (Akwa Ibom KTR 379 AA), various bank ATM cards, different bank transfer tokens, digital National Identification Number slip with the name Sunday Abiodun, two complimentary cards with the name Engineer Abiodun, a designer bag (Emporio Amani), One iPhone 17 Promax, One Samsung phone, 4G internet pocket WIFI, One Patek Philip wrist watch, vehicle particulars, One gold bangle and a pair of shoes (Alexandra MC Queen).
