In a significant development underscoring the growing synergy between traditional institutions and the fight against corruption, the Kano and Jigawa State offices of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have paid a landmark courtesy visit to the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi CFR.

His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, delivered insightful remarks during the audience, offering commendation for the Commission’s tireless efforts in upholding probity across the nation.
The Emir, whose influence extends far beyond ceremonial duties, articulated the critical role that traditional institutions must play in the national crusade against corruption, emphasising that the fight cannot be left to statutory agencies alone.
“We must recognise that collective efforts can dramatically transform the lives of our citizens,” the Emir declared, “creating pathways for a brighter future for all equally. The fight against corruption is a struggle that belongs to every Nigerian.”
The Emir particularly applauded the Commission’s whistle-blower policy, though he offered a constructive caveat that deserves earnest consideration. His Royal Highness suggested that for the policy to achieve optimal efficacy, robust protections must be guaranteed for both information and informants’ identities.
“It must not generate fear among citizens, which would inevitably discourage disclosure,” he counseled, highlighting a crucial tension between encouraging whistleblowing and ensuring the safety of those courageous enough to come forward.
Earlier in the proceedings, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for the two states, Ahmad Muhammad Wada Esq., provided a comprehensive exposition of the Commission’s mandate and operational framework.
In his address, Wada stressed that “integrity is needed in all spheres of society, and appears where there is an absence of standards, personal integrity or professional ethics” – a stark reminder of the moral bankruptcy that corruption engenders when allowed to flourish unchecked.
The Resident Commissioner elaborated that the purpose of the visit was twofold: to strengthen institutional relations between the Commission and traditional institutions, and crucially, to explore opportunities for meaningful collaboration in promoting integrity across both states.
This strategic engagement with traditional leadership represents a paradigm shift in the Commission’s approach to public education and awareness-raising.
Significantly, Wada moved to allay concerns regarding whistle-blower protection, referencing Section 64 of the ICPC Act, which explicitly provides for the safeguarding of information and informants. This legislative provision, he assured the Emir and his council, offers a robust legal framework that should encourage citizens to come forward without trepidation, knowing that the law stands firmly behind them.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about future collaboration, with the Emir pledging his unwavering support and that of his traditional council to the Commission’s work in Jigawa State.
The partnership envisages joint public enlightenment campaigns, community engagement programmes, and the establishment of traditional institution-based integrity committees that would serve as early warning systems against corrupt practices.
This strategic alliance between the ICPC and the Dutse Emirate represents a template for engaging traditional institutions in the national anti-corruption architecture.

The Bayelsa State Government has restated its unwavering zero-tolerance policy against corruption and declared its full readiness for robust collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), even as the anti-graft agency intensifies its engagement with state executives to strengthen Nigeria’s integrity framework.

This commitment came to the fore recently when a delegation from the ICPC Rivers State Office, led by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Dr. (Mrs) Ekere Usiere, paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Hon. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, at the Government House, Yenagoa.
The visit underscored the Commission’s dedication to a multi-stakeholder approach in curbing corrupt practices. It was specifically convened to solicit the active partnership of the state’s executive arm in advancing the ICPC’s preventive mandate.
During the parley, Dr. Usiere commended the Deputy Governor for granting the delegation an audience and reiterated that the Commission’s statutory responsibilities necessitate robust synergy with state governments, as critical stakeholders in the national integrity architecture.
Placing considerable emphasis on proactive measures, the RACC noted that public sensitisation remains the cornerstone of sustainable anti-corruption reform.
She expounded extensively on the National Ethics and Integrity Policy, a flagship initiative of the Commission designed to inculcate ethical consciousness and deter corrupt behaviour across all strata of society.
“We must move beyond enforcement to entrench a culture of accountability. The people of Bayelsa must be fully educated on the detrimental impact of corruption and the virtues of transparency,” she asserted.
Responding, Deputy Governor Hon. Peter Pereotubo Akpe warmly received the ICPC team and lauded the Commission for its vigilance and foresight.
Reaffirming the Bayelsa State Government’s uncompromising stance on probity, he declared: “Our administration operates a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. We are wholly prepared to collaborate with the ICPC in this collective endeavour, and we shall leverage our Ministry of Information, Orientation, and Strategy to amplify public enlightenment campaigns.”
The high-level meeting, held in the Deputy Governor’s Conference Room, was attended by principal officers of the Bayelsa State Government, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimbofa Ayawei.

Nigeria Police Force Arrests, Repatriats Chadian Fugitives Wanted for Murder in N’Djamena
The Nigeria Police Force, through operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, has arrested and repatriated Mahadijiria Abdoulaye, a Chadian national wanted by authorities in N’Djamena in connection with the murder of Nazik Mahamat Saleh, who was tortured and killed on 3rd May, 2026.

An international warrant of arrest was issued by the Court of Appeal, N’Djamena, on 22nd June, 2026, for Abdoulaye and her accomplice, Fatime Senoussi Mouktar, in connection with the case.
Abdoulaye, who is also linked to narcotics trafficking activities in Chad, fled to Nigeria following the incident and was subsequently traced and arrested by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja on 5th August, 2026, at Railway Quarters, Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, following coordinated intelligence operations.
On 14th August, 2026, the suspect was successfully repatriated to N’Djamena, Chad, through Lomé, Togo, under established bilateral Police cooperation arrangements. The operation was conducted by INTERPOL NCB Abuja in close collaboration with INTERPOL NCB N’Djamena to facilitate her return to Chad to face the judicial process.
Commending the successful operation, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commended the operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja for their professionalism, diligence and effective coordination with their Chadian counterparts, noting that the successful arrest and repatriation reflects the Force’s commitment to ensuring that fugitives do not evade justice by crossing international borders.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to leveraging established international policing channels and partnerships to track fugitives, disrupt trans-border criminal networks and ensure that persons wanted for serious crimes do not find safe haven in Nigeria.
