Angry Youths Protest EFCC Midnight Raids in Delta, Petition Oborevwori
Over 100 youths under the aegis of the Let’s Save Asaba Movement Initiative on Friday staged a peaceful protest at the Delta State Government House, Asaba, over alleged midnight raids, forced entry into homes, arrests and intimidation during operations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The protesters, operating under the motto, “See Something, Say Something,” submitted a petition to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to intervene over what they described as growing concerns about the conduct of some EFCC operations in the state.
The petition was received on behalf of the state government by Nwokoro Julius, a security aide to the governor, who promised to forward it to the appropriate authorities.
The protesters said they were not opposed to the EFCC’s fight against financial crimes but insisted that its operations must be conducted professionally, within the law and with respect for citizens’ fundamental rights.
Speaking to journalists at the Government House, a co-convener of the movement, Marvin Mordi, said the protesters were at the premises to draw the government’s attention to what they described as alleged unlawful treatment of youths.
Mordi said the group was seeking government intervention rather than confrontation, adding that authorities should protect the rights of citizens.
“We don’t want to take the protest to the streets. What we are here for is simple. We are here to tell the government that our rights as citizens of Nigeria are not a crime. It is not a crime to be doing well,” Mordi said.
He alleged that EFCC operatives had entered residential areas and arrested youths without proper profiling.
“It is not a crime for anybody to come from nowhere, come to our houses and pick up our youths,” he said.
Mordi further alleged that some youths were taken away during operations the previous night and that some detainees were facing demands for millions of naira.
“Just last night, some youths were taken away. They are there, and there are allegations that millions of naira are being demanded from some persons,” he said.
He appealed to the state government to intervene before the situation escalated.
“We don’t want to take the protest to the streets. The government should send a message to them. They should leave our people alone,” he said.
Mordi stressed that the group was not opposed to lawful arrests where there was evidence of criminal conduct.
“If anyone commits a crime, they should go after the person. Come and pick up the person who committed the crime, not come and arrest people randomly,” he said.
He added that the protesters would continue to defend what they considered the legitimate rights of residents.
“We are peaceful and law-abiding. We are here to make our statement to the government,” Mordi said.
Also speaking, Emmanuel Ogbolu, who described himself as one of the alleged victims, appealed to Oborevwori to ensure that EFCC operatives adopted a more professional approach in dealing with young people.
Ogbolu warned that what he described as indiscriminate operations could create tension among youths and eventually lead to wider security challenges.
“We have come here to appeal peacefully to the governor that the EFCC should be professional in its dealings with the youths.”
He alleged that the manner in which some operations were being conducted could contribute to youth restiveness.
“Why I am calling on the governor in this matter is that the EFCC is trying to promote youth restiveness, and I know the governor will not like it. If it occurs, we are going to be facing a lot of security challenges.”
Ogbolu questioned the alleged failure of operatives to properly identify and profile some residents before entering residential premises.
“What happened to proper profiling? What happened to being professional in their dealings?”
He also alleged that a person with mental health challenges was picked up during one of the operations and that a demand for N10m was subsequently made.
“This is one example to let you know that they are not profiling the people they are coming to pick. This is illegal,” he alleged.
The allegations made by Mordi and Ogbolu could not be independently verified, while the EFCC’s response to the specific claims was not available as of the time of filing this report.
In its petition, the movement called on the Delta State Government to investigate allegations of unlawful raids, midnight operations, forced entry, intimidation and abuse of residents.
It also urged the government to engage relevant Federal Government authorities and ensure that EFCC operations in Delta complied with the Constitution and other applicable laws.
The protesters demanded the protection of residents’ fundamental rights, dignity, privacy and personal security during law-enforcement operations.
They also requested a channel through which affected residents could safely submit evidence and complaints concerning alleged misconduct.
The group stressed that its protest was peaceful and constitutional, saying it wanted accountability rather than confrontation.

The movement added that it supported the EFCC’s mandate but insisted that the agency must operate within the law.
The petition was signed by Comrade Ajemba Chibueze Stanley, Nkemakolam Desmond, identified as the convener, Comrade Marvin Mordi, identified as co-convener, and Comrade Harrison Gwamnishu, Director, BBI.
The group called for the law to prevail, human rights to be respected, and the rule of law to be upheld.
The EFCC’s response to the allegations was not available as of the time of filing this report.

Anambra Police Raid Secessionist Hideout, Arrest 65-year-old Suspect, Six Others
The Anambra State Police Command has raided some criminal hideouts across the state, recovering several sophisticated arms and ammunition and arresting some suspects, including a 65-year-old secessionist member and six other suspects.

The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Friday, said the clearance operation was carried out by the operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit on Thursday in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Ikenga explained that the joint security team, acting on credible information, raided identified black spots and criminal hideouts in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area and Umudioka, Dinukofia LGA of the state.
According to him, the operation resulted in the arrest of a 65-year-old male, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, in Umudioka as well as six other suspects identified as Chisom Okafor, female, 25 years; Onyedika Moses, male, 36 years; Iruka Nwaonu, male, 30 years; Joseph Nwankwo, male, 36 years; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, male, 32 years; and Akanimo Orok, male, 40 years.
The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command has continued its sustained security operations and raid of criminal hideouts across the State, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu and the Command’s intensified operational strategy against violent crimes, cultism and illicit drug activities.
“Acting on credible intelligence in the evening of August 13, 2026, Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested a 65-year-old male, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, in Umudioka.
“A careful search of his residence led to the recovery of an Army uniform and expended shells of ammunition concealed in a black polythene bag.
“The suspect has been taken into custody for investigation, while efforts are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the recovered items and his alleged activities.”
According to him, in the evening of the same date, operatives acting on credible intelligence and in furtherance of the directive to raid identified black spots and criminal hideouts stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects identified as: Chisom Okafor, female, 25 years; Onyedika Moses, male, 36 years; Iruka Nwaonu, male, 30 years; Joseph Nwankwo, male, 36 years; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, male, 32 years; and Akanimo Orok, male, 40 years.
“During the operation, a sizeable quantity of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols and coordinated raids to dismantle criminal networks, disrupt illicit drug activities and deny criminals safe havens across Anambra State.
The CP further directs that the ongoing raid operation of criminal hideouts, drug-selling spots and other identified areas of criminal activities be intensified and sustained.

EFCC Arraigns Lawal Babale Musa for Alleged N56.4m Pilgrimage Fraud in Ibadan
The Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, August 13, 2026 arraigned one Lawal Babale Musa before Justice Olusola Adetujoye of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Musa was arraigned on a fifty seven-count charge bordering on forgery, uttering of documents and stealing to the tune of N56, 491, 000.00 (Fifty-six Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-one Thousand Naira).
Count one of the charges reads: “That you, Lawal Babale Musa ‘M’ on or between 2nd November, 2022 to 22nd July, 2024 at Ibadan, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, converted to your own personal use, total sum of N56, 491, 000.00 (Fifty-six Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-one Thousand Naira) from Ibrahim Shuaibu the sums meant for Hajj pilgrimage through Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for Jibril Adamu, Suleiman Aminatu, Musa Haruna, Suleiman N. Abdullahi, Audu Bello, Yusuf Umaru, Saidu Musa, Idris Suleiman, Musa Yunusa and Usman Haruna and thereby committed an offence of stealing by conversion contrary to Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 38, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”
Count two reads: “That you, Lawal Babale Musa ‘M’ on or about 10th day of November, 2023 at Ibadan, Oyo State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, forged a Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency Receipt Number: 0013041 in the name of Jibril Adamu with intent that it may be acted upon as genuine and thereby committed an offence of Forgery of document contrary to Section 465 and punishable under Section 467 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 38, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”
Another count of the charges reads, “That you, Lawal Babale Musa ‘M’ on or about 2nd of February, 2024 at Ibadan, Oyo State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, uttered a Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency Receipt with Receipt Number: 012654 to one Jibril Adamu with intent that it may be acted upon as genuine and thereby committed an offence of uttering of document contrary to Section 468 and punishable under Section 467 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 38, Laws of Oyo State. 2000.”
The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the count charges when they were read to him.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Bashir Shamsuddeen prayed the court for a trial date and the remand of the defendant in a Correctional Centre.
Counsel to the defendant, Kehinde Adegbola informed the court that he had filed a motion, praying the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.
Justice Adetujoye thereafter adjourned the matter till August 17, 2026 for hearing of the bail application and remanded the defendant in Agodi Correctional Centre.
Musa’s journey to the Correctional Centre started when he approached one Ibrahim Shuaibu under the pretext that he worked for the Kaduna State Government and could help facilitate the 2023 Hajj Pilgrimage.

Consequently, Shuaibu informed some of his friends : Jibril Adamu, Suleiman Aminatu, Musa Haruna, Suleiman N. Abdullahi, Audu Bello, Yusuf Umaru, Saidu Musa, Idris Suleiman, Musa Yunusa and Usman Haruna who are into the business of cattle breeding and rearing within the Oke-ogun area of Ibadan Oyo State and they cumulatively paid the sum of N56, 491, 000.00 (Fifty-six Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-one Thousand Naira) to Shuaibu who, in turn, transferred the money to the defendant to facilitate the 2023 Hajj Pilgrimage.
However, no one among the victims were able to attend the Saudi Arabia Hajj Pilgrimage of 2023 due to the fraudulent refusal of Musa to fulfil his promise.

In furtherance to Air Force War College Nigeria’s commitment to developing officers into strategically minded and operationally competent military leaders, staff, Members of Faculty and participants of Air War Course 12/2026, led by the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal GA Mbaka, participated in the Strategic National Security Exercise (STRANEX) and Joint Operations Exercise (JOPEX) at the National Defence College, Abuja and Army War College Nigeria respectively.

A key focus of the STRANEX was the effective coordination and synchronization of military capabilities in pursuit of national security objectives from the strategic to the operational levels. The conduct of STRANEX also underscores the commitment of the Colleges towards developing middle cadre officers into future commanders for improved intellectual agility, strategic judgement and joint operational mindset required to navigate complex security challenges. The exercise further reinforced the importance of intelligence-driven decision making, effective command and control, strategic foresight and unity of effort in contemporary operations.
It also brought participants from the Army War College Nigeria, Naval War College Nigeria and Air Force War College Nigeria with the aim of enhancing strategic appreciation, operational planning, jointness and interoperability in addressing complex national security challenges. For participants of AWC 12/2026, the exercise further broadened their strategic perspectives and strengthened their capacity to make sound decisions in dynamic operational environments.

The exercise also exposed participants to realistic and evolving security scenarios requiring them to analyse threats, develop courses of action and make timely strategic and operational decisions. It also provided a practical platform to apply classroom knowledge while appreciating the capabilities and operational perspectives of the three Services.
