Governor Eno Commissions 14.8km Roads in Akwa Ibom Community, Urges Citizens to Reject Fake News

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged citizens to disregard unfounded claims, fake news and unsubstantiated statements being circulated to misinform the public and create confusion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Eno gave the warning on Monday, September 21, 2026, while commissioning 14.8 kilometres of internal roads and spurs, alongside a 1.9-kilometre discharge drain, in Awa, ONNA Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor described the project as particularly significant to him because of its location in the home community of his predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel.
According to him, he personally chose to commission the project as a mark of honour and respect for his political predecessor and father.

Governor Eno said some individuals were attempting to create a rift between him and Emmanuel, stressing that political differences would not prevent him from continuing to respect and work with his predecessor.
He described the former governor as a sacrificial leader who initiated projects across different parts of the state, sometimes at the expense of his own immediate community.
Eno said it was therefore incumbent upon his administration to complete the internal road project in Awa which was initiated by the former governor.

The Governor commended stakeholders and residents of ONNA for their support, particularly the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon. Kufre Umoren, for his support and endorsement of the administration.
He disclosed that 26 projects were currently at various stages of completion in ONNA, while highlighting the contributions of indigenes of the area serving in key positions in his administration, including Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Emem Bob; Accountant-General of the State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien; Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh; and Chief Photographer, Mr Idara Adiakpan.

Governor Eno assured the people of ONNA that his administration would continue to collaborate with them to promote development in the area and across Akwa Ibom State.
On reports of damage to some roads in the area by heavy-duty trucks, the Governor said the government would engage the parties responsible for the situation, while urging residents not to take the law into their own hands.

He also disclosed plans to establish a toll gate arrangement under which ordinary road users would be exempted from payment, while heavy-duty vehicles would pay fees towards road maintenance.

The Governor thanked the people of ONNA for their warm reception and assured them of more development projects in the years ahead.
Speaking on the project, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, described the commissioning as historic, recalling that the road project was the first major assignment he handled after his appointment as Commissioner in the previous administration.
Ibanga commended Governor Eno for ensuring the completion of the project, expressing satisfaction that the 14.8-kilometre internal roads project had finally been delivered.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of ONNA Local Government Area, Hon. Kufre Umoren, commended Governor Eno for executing road projects and other interventions in the area, including a primary healthcare centre, a model primary school and compassionate homes for vulnerable residents.
Umoren pledged to work with stakeholders and residents of the local government to reciprocate the Governor’s development efforts, including mobilising support for his re-election in 2027.

In separate goodwill messages, the political leader of ONNA, Hon. Pat Ifon; Member representing ONNA State Constituency, Hon. Sunday Johnny; Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Emem Bob; former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Owoidighe Ekpoatai; and the Paramount Ruler of ONNA, HRM Edidem Raymond Inyang, commended Governor Eno for improving the quality of life of residents through road infrastructure and other development projects.

They also expressed support for the Governor and pledged to work towards securing victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Governor Eno Assures Seplat Energy of Sustained Partnership, Investment Protection

Governor Eno gave the assurance when he received the management of Seplat Energy, led by its Chairman, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Uyo.
The Governor congratulated the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Effiong Okon, on his appointment and assumption of office, noting that his new position carries responsibilities beyond the interests of Seplat Energy to also contribute to the development of Akwa Ibom State.

He commended Seplat Energy for its sense of responsibility and collaboration with the state government, particularly its engagement with host communities.

Governor Eno urged the company to sustain its efforts and develop more initiatives capable of improving the welfare of its host communities and contributing to the overall development of the state.

He attributed the peaceful atmosphere in Akwa Ibom to deliberate collaboration among the government, security agencies and residents, assuring Seplat Energy that his administration would continue to work with the company to sustain peace and create an enabling environment for investment.
The Governor also commended Senator Udoma, whom he described as one of the great sons of Akwa Ibom, while expressing confidence in the new management of Seplat Energy to achieve its objectives and make a greater impact across its host communities.

Earlier, Senator Udoma commended Governor Eno for what he described as visionary and impactful leadership in the state.
He explained that the delegation was at the Government House to formally introduce the company’s new CEO, Engr. Effiong Okon, to the Governor and strengthen the relationship between Seplat Energy and the state government.

In his remarks, Engr. Okon expressed delight at returning home to contribute to the development of Akwa Ibom while also discharging his responsibilities to Seplat Energy.

Nigerian Police Arrests Suspected Armed Robber in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered two locally made pistols and two machetes in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state.

The police said the arrest followed a distress alert in the early hours of September 14, 2026.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Uyo.

John said operatives on vehicular patrol received an emergency alert from the Command Control Room directing them to Ikot Ekweng Village in Ibiono Ibom, following a report of a violent attack at about 5am.

According to her, the patrol team met one Inspector Henry, who alleged that he was attacked by one Ini Mfon.

The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly attacked the officer with a machete while attempting to dispossess him of his tricycle, leaving the officer with an injury to his right hand.

The statement read, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another major operational breakthrough in its sustained onslaught against violent crime and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the State, following the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of two locally made pistols and two machetes in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

“The arrest followed a swift response by Police operatives to a distress alert in the early hours of 14 September 2026. At about 0500 hours, operatives of the Command, while on vehicular patrol, received an emergency alert from the Command Control Room directing them to Ikot Ekweng Village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, following a reported violent attack”, part of the statement said.

“A subsequent search of the premises led to the recovery of two locally made pistols and two machetes, allegedly found in his possession,” the statement said.

John said detectives were working to determine the source of the weapons, whether they had been used in previous operations and if the suspect was linked to other criminal syndicates within or outside the local government.

She added that the suspect was currently in police custody and assisting investigators, while the recovered weapons had been secured as exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, saying the arrest demonstrated the command’s resolve to tackle violent crime.

He warned that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing, targeted raids and aggressive patrols to recover illegal firearms and dismantle criminal networks.

“We will continue to intensify intelligence-led policing, targeted raids, aggressive patrols and other lawful security operations aimed at recovering illegal firearms and dismantling criminal networks across the State. Any credible information supplied to the Police will be treated with utmost confidentiality”, he said.

Azare added that Akwa Ibom would not be a safe haven for persons involved in armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms, and urged residents to report suspicious activities and the movement of illegal firearms.
