Sowore Criticises Delay In El-Rufai’s Bail Hearing, Says “Using Bail To Cage Nigerians Is Unjust”
Omoyele Sowore has criticised the delay in the bail hearing for Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, at the state high court.
On Tuesday, the Kaduna high court adjourned el-Rufai’s bail application hearing to the first week of June.
Darius Khobo, the presiding judge, postponed the bail hearing again, having initially adjourned the verdict on the bail application on April 14.
The former governor arrived at court alongside operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Channels Television reported that while speaking with journalists after the court session, Ukpon Akpan, counsel to el-Rufai, kicked against the repeated adjournment of the bail hearing, describing it as politically motivated.
Reacting to the development in a statement posted on X, Sowore condemned what he described as “LAWFARE” against the former governor of Kaduna.
“Let the courts uphold the rule of law by granting him bail and ensuring he receives a fair trial. Bail is a constitutional right, not a tool for punishment or intimidation,” he wrote.

“Using bail as a means of caging Nigerians is unjust, unlawful, and unacceptable. It is a practice we must all reject, regardless of who is involved.”
On April 13, ICPC arraigned el-Rufai at the Kaduna high court on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office.
The anti-graft agency removed Amadu Sule, the co-defendant, from the amended case.

In another criminal charge at the federal high court in Kaduna, the former FCT minister was granted N200 million bail by Rilwani Aikawa, the presiding judge.
El-Rufai has been in the custody of the ICPC since February 19, after he was released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
On March 27, he was released on compassionate grounds after his mother passed on.

NAF Air Strikes Kill Several Terrorists Hiding In Yuwe Axis Of Sambisa Forest
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, has sustained intense pressure on terrorist elements in the North-East, with a precision air strike on 19 April 2026 eliminating several fighters concealed within the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest. The operation followed credible intelligence corroborated by Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), which confirmed the presence of active terrorist elements within fortified structures and bunkers.
NAF air assets engaged the targets with precision munitions, destroying the structures, neutralising multiple terrorists, and eliminating key logistics facilities as confirmed by subsequent Battle Damage Assessment. The sustained tempo of air operations continues to degrade terrorist networks, leaving the terrorists increasingly exposed and disrupted, with mounting pressure forcing them into desperate and reactive actions.

Reaffirming the Service’s resolve, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, stated that “the Nigerian Air Force will sustain relentless, intelligence-driven air operations until terrorist elements are completely neutralised.
