Diaspora Are Assets For National Development, Not Consular Burdens, Says FG

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, has stated that Nigerians in the Diaspora should not be viewed as a consular burden but rather as a veritable asset for national development.

The Minister made this known during a courtesy visit by the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, alongside the Commission’s top management staff, to his office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Abuja.

Amb. Enikanolaiye noted that Nigerians across the globe are making remarkable contributions in their various fields of endeavour, adding that only a few individuals are responsible for the negative media narratives about Nigeria abroad.

Despite these isolated incidents, he stressed that the country’s outlook remains positive.

While acknowledging NiDCOM for its remarkable strides over the years despite numerous challenges, the Minister said the Commission has effectively filled the institutional gap that existed before its establishment, thereby justifying the Federal Government’s decision to create the Commission.

He also commended the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her resilience, dedication, and commitment over the years.

According to him, her efforts have continued to place Nigerians in the Diaspora on the global map while ensuring that their skills, expertise, and resources are harnessed for Nigeria’s national development.

He further reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to continue working closely with NiDCOM in advancing the 4Ds Foreign Policy Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He suggested a strategic engagement with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum aimed at strengthening collaboration between state governments and Nigerians in the Diaspora to enhance development initiatives across the country.

In her response, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, highlighted the Commission’s achievements since its establishment while also outlining some of its challenges, including inadequate funding and the need for a permanent office structure.

She formally congratulated Ambassador Enikanolaiye on his appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and noted that NiDCOM has, over the years, enjoyed a cordial and productive working relationship with successive Ministers of State for Foreign Affairs.

Dabiri-Erewa reiterated the Commission’s commitment to working closely with the Minister in deepening diaspora engagement and expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its sustained collaboration and partnership in promoting the interests of Nigerians in the Diaspora and advancing national development.

The exercise forms part of the Service’s deliberate operational policy of periodically rotating personnel deployed across theatres of operation to preserve combat effectiveness, mitigate operational fatigue and ensure the continuous delivery of decisive air and ground support in defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, troop rotation has become a key enabler of operational success, reflecting the understanding that personnel welfare and mission accomplishment are mutually reinforcing. As one contingent concludes its operational tour and proceeds on well-deserved rest and reunites with loved ones, another batch of well-trained personnel seamlessly assumes frontline responsibilities with renewed energy, ensuring uninterrupted operational tempo and sustained pressure on criminal elements and other threats to national security.

Coordinated by the Directorate of Regiment under the Operations Branch at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, the rotation highlights the Service’s unwavering resolve to protect not only the nation but also the men and women entrusted with that responsibility.

Ola Olukoyede Charges Students To Use Internet Positively

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has charged students across the country to use the internet positively and for socially desirable activities.

He gave this charge on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 when the executives of the Niger Delta Students’ Union Government paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Commission.

Olukoyede who spoke through the Acting Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, urged the youths to be innovative, creative and explore the positive advantages that come with the internet.

“The internet does not have to be an avenue to impersonate, manipulate or fabricate lies to defraud others. Let the youths begin to use the internet to provide digital solutions to meet the needs of industries, homes and government,” he said.

He noted that many Nigerian youths are resourceful, innovative, creative and forward looking and warned those who seek to use the internet for negativity and fraud to desist from it. “We will continue to discharge our responsibility without fear or favour. Internet fraud is a crime, so we will not relent in arresting and prosecuting those found culpable,” he said.

He charged the students union executives to be role models in their campus. “As students’ union leaders, you have to be a good example and role model for others to see. You have to be good ambassadors. Leadership is by example. You have to lead the way,” he said. He also charged the students to collaborate with the Commission in propagating the message of integrity, accountability and transparency in their schools.

In his remarks, the National Secretary of the Union, Comrade Aighomwanhi Mascot said that the visit was to seek areas of collaboration and foster a long-lasting relationship between the Commission and the union. “We are seeking to explore ways to partner with your organization that will benefit the students and better our society,” he said.

He thanked the Commission for the reception noting that they have become better informed and educated about the activities of the Commission.

Similarly, Olukoyede on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, warned members of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Edo State Branch not to become conduits for money launderers. He stated this when the new executive members of the association paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Commission.

The Chairman who spoke through DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad urged the motor dealers’ executives to prevail on their members to obtain the Special Control Unit Against Money, SCUML, certification and comply with the money laundering laws and regulations.

“We are trying to protect your business. You must help us to help you. Register and obtain the SCUML certificate, and ensure you report suspicion transactions to the Commission,” he said.

The newly elected Chairman of the union, Goodluck Imadiyi said the visit was to introduce themselves to the leadership of the Commission and to seek collaboration on regulatory compliance in line with the Money Laundering Act. “We believe that the collaboration will significantly help in ridding Edo State of fraudulent activities in the automobile sector,” he stated.

Olukoyede Charges Students

Also on Wednesday July 22, 2026, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad urged the executives of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies, NANTA, Eastern Zone who paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties, noting that the Commission receives avalanche of petitions relating to visa fraud in the zone.

Responding, the coordinator of NANTA, Edo State chapter, Dr. Osaretin Daniel Okpiavbe noted that the reason for their visit was to seek ways to collaborate with the Commission on fraud prevention and to support the efforts at maintaining credibility within the industry.

He commended the Commission for its steadfast commitment in combating financial crimes and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s economic and business environment.
