Workers’ Day: ADC Faults Tinubu Government On Workers’ Welfare

The African Democratic Congress has criticised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a failure to protect Nigerian workers from worsening economic conditions, rising insecurity, and limited job opportunities.

In a Workers’ Day statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, the ADC said many Nigerians are working harder but earning less, as inflation continues to erode wages and the cost of living rises across key sectors including food, housing, transport, and energy.

The party attributed the situation to policy failures, arguing that insecurity has disrupted farming and business activity, while job creation has not kept pace with the growing workforce. It added that there has been no meaningful intervention to cushion the impact of inflation on Nigerian workers, emphasising that it is committed to building an economy that creates jobs, stabilises prices, and ensures that productivity translates into improved incomes, stressing that Nigerian workers are not asking for charity, but fairness.

On this Workers’ Day, the African Democratic Congress stands in solidarity with millions of Nigerian workers whose daily effort sustains this country, even as the system, under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, continues to fail them.

Across Nigeria today, workers are doing more and earning less. Rising costs of food, transport, housing, and energy have eroded the value of Nigerian workers daily and monthly wages. For many, hard work no longer guarantees stability, dignity, or upward mobility. This is not sustainable. And it is not acceptable.

This hardship is not accidental. It is the direct consequence of policy choices and governance failures by the APC. Insecurity remains widespread, making it difficult for farmers to produce and for businesses to operate.

Job creation has stalled at a time when millions of young Nigerians are entering the workforce. The cost of living continues to rise without any meaningful or sustained intervention to cushion its impact on workers.

A government that cannot guarantee safety, create jobs, or stabilise the cost of living is a government that is failing its workers. A nation that does not reward work cannot build prosperity.

The ADC believes that the dignity of labour must be matched by the dignity of reward. This requires an economy that is deliberately structured to create jobs, support enterprise, and ensure that productivity translates into real income for workers.

This is why, as a party, our commitment is clear: to drive job creation by unlocking key sectors of the economy, especially agriculture, manufacturing, and services; to restore security as a foundation for economic activity, ensuring that Nigerians can work, farm, and do business without fear; to stabilise the macroeconomic environment so that wages can regain their value; to reduce the cost of living by addressing inflation at its roots, from food production to energy supply; to support small and medium-sized businesses, which remain the largest employers of labour in Nigeria; and, to ensure that policies are designed with the Nigerian worker at the centre, not as an afterthought
Workers are not asking for charity. They are asking for fairness. What they have received instead is neglect.

ADC Attention Has Been Drawn To Media Reports That High Court, Has Sacked The Elected, To Be Inaugurated, State Chairmen

The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to media reports that the Federal High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik, has sacked the elected, but yet to be inaugurated, State Chairmen of our party.

It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives, which will run their full course before the newly elected State Executives are inaugurated.

FG Advances Infrastructure Drive With Approval Of New PPP Road Projects, Solar Lighting, Landscaping, Enhanced Security Features

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable, innovative, and economically impactful infrastructure across Nigeria, following key approvals and policy directions aimed at accelerating national development. This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the Management of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited to the Honourable Minister of Works on Wednesday.

The Honourable Minister of Works, H. E. Sen. (Engr.) David Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE disclosed that the President has approved the commencement of an extension of the recently completed Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridges Project in Rivers State to be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, with an estimated cost of about ₦150 billion. The project is expected to incorporate modern engineering solutions, including the use of concrete technology to ensure long-term durability and minimal maintenance over a lifespan of 50 to 100 years.

The Minister further revealed that the project has been slated for presentation to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for formal ratification, underscoring the administration’s commitment to due process and transparency in project execution.

As part of efforts to enhance safety, aesthetics, and economic activity along the nation’s road corridors, the government has approved the installation of solar-powered street lighting and the planting of trees. These initiatives are designed to improve night-time visibility, boost security, beautify the corridor, and stimulate commercial activities across the host communities.

In addition, plans are underway to deploy a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system along major highways, complemented by strategically located monitoring centres. This measure is expected to significantly reduce emergency response time to under 10 minutes, thereby strengthening road safety and security management.

The project design also includes the construction of rest areas/relief stations and service facilities to support effective monitoring and maintenance operations. Contractors have been directed to utilise savings from project costs to further enhance infrastructure through the provision of solar lighting and tree planting, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability.

In a bid to improve logistics and reduce congestion, the government has emphasised the inclusion of truck parking yards at key locations along the project’s corridor. Engagements with host communities are ongoing to secure suitable land for these facilities, ensuring smooth implementation and community participation. The government has also set a strict project delivery timeline of not more than 12 months from the date of award, with firm provisions to prevent cost variations. This is aimed at ensuring efficiency, accountability, and value for money.

Commending stakeholders involved in the project, the Honourable Minister noted that the ongoing infrastructure revolution under the current Renewed Hope Administration is unprecedented with a visible impact across all regions of the country. He emphasised that the government is not only focused on constructing roads but on delivering world-class infrastructure that supports economic growth, enhances safety, and improves the quality of life of Nigerians.

The Federal Government reiterated its resolve to continue exploring innovative solutions, fostering investment, and ensuring that infrastructure development directly benefits communities nationwide.

The Managing Director of NLNG, Engr. Adeleye Falade, in the company of some officials presented a model of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) ship to the Minister, symbolising NLNG’s commitment to innovation and the promotion of cleaner energy solutions in Nigeria’s transportation and maritime sectors. The meeting also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss areas of mutual interest and collaboration in advancing sustainable infrastructure development.
