Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has described the immortalization of his wife with the Patience Umo Eno Ante-natal Complex at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital as a perfect Valentine’s gift for him and his family.

Speaking at the commissioning of the complex at the UUTH premises, the Governor said the gesture has brought to bear her (Pastor Patience) deep love for the family as a critical unit for the development of the society, which had informed her decision to establish her pet project: The Golden Initiative For All ( lGIFA).

He said the antenatal complex compliments the government’s passion and dedication to reducing infant mortality rate and to ensure that pregnant mothers are exposed to the best antenatal care possible in the State.

The Governor said government under his leadership was working hard to reposition the Specialist Hospital to the standard that will drive medical tourism in the State, open up a medical corridor with a medical village, build a complete mother and child hospital, with doctors quarters, and other facilities that will promote medical tourism in the State.

He noted that though the UUTH is a Federal institution, most of the beneficiaries are indigenes of Akwa Ibom State, and therefore announced a donation of N200 Million to support the medical services in the hospital as well as N10 million for health insurance of needy patients in the hospital.

Governor Eno appreciated the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Emem Bassey, who is a former Commissioner of Health in the State, for his transformational initiative in the hospital and assured him of Government’s continuous support to enable him do more.

He also assured that the government will ensure continuous collaboration with the UUTH management and other medical stakeholders to actualise its development vision for the medical sector as expressed in the ARISE Agenda.

“Let me on behalf of my family express our deep and profound gratitude to you, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Emem Bassey and indeed the management and staff of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, for this huge honour you have done my family, by naming and dedicating this antenatal complex in honour of my dearly departed wife and our immediate past First Lady, H.E., Pastor ( Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno,” he said.

In her remarks, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki also appreciated the CMD and the management for the gesture, which according to her is in line with one of the thematic areas of GIFA, maternal healthcare.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Bassey appreciated the Governor for his numerous assistance to the hospital and commitment to transforming the State medical sector.

“Today, we are gathered to celebrate and immortalise a virtuous woman who was passionate about the less- privileged and who impacted greatly on the lives of many in her capacities as a mother, wife, Pastor and First Lady of our State during her sojourn on this terrestrial realm.”

Akwa Ibom Indigenes Protest RMAFC Meeting, Warn Against Tampering With State’s Oil Wells

Akwa Ibom indigenes protest RMAFC meeting, warn against tampering with State’s Oil Wells. Akwa Ibom indigenes resident in Abuja on Tuesday stormed the venue of a meeting of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), where the Inter-Agency Technical Committee (IATC) on Disputed/New Oil Wells was sitting, to protest what they described as attempts to reopen a matter already settled by the Supreme Court.

The protesters cautioned that no individual or agency should tamper with Akwa Ibom State’s 76 oil wells, stressing that the ownership of the wells was conclusively determined in favour of the state by the Supreme Court in 2012.

They insisted that any move to revisit the issue through administrative or technical processes would amount to a disregard for the authority of the apex court and could undermine peace in the Niger Delta region.

Akwa Ibom State was formally represented at the IATC meeting by a high-powered delegation comprising leading legal practitioners, government officials and technocrats. Members of the delegation included Paul Usoro, SAN; Assam Assam, SAN; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN; Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN; Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN; and a former Attorney-General of Akwa Ibom State.

PVC, APC E-Registration: Umo Eno Charges Constituents To Embrace Exercises

PVC, APC e-registration: Umo Eno charges constituents to embrace exercises. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged indigenes and residents of Ibiakpan Obotim Ward II, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, as well as others across the state, to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and APC membership e-registration exercise, as, according to him, it is crucial for validating party membership and ensuring their voices are heard.

Addressing a crowd of APC members and supporters at his hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, the Governor said that boosting both registrations is also critical to attracting more dividends, programmes, and welfare to the area.

“More party membership in a particular Ward implies more allocation of the party’s welfare to the place. And, I enjoin you to step up the membership numbers in order to be significant and relevant in the party’s scheme of things,” he noted.

The Governor directed the people to ensure that they register appropriately with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to have their Permanent Voters Cards, PVC, and become eligible to participate in future electoral exercises.

“No matter how populated you are in your party, if you don’t have your PVC, such a party population will be meaningless because your vote would not be counted as expected.
