Governor Uba Sani Receives PDP, LP Defectors From Southern Kaduna Into APC

Governor Uba Sani receives PDP, LP defectors from Southern Kaduna into APC. Mr Sani said that President Bola Tinubu was pleased with what has been happening in Kaduna State.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has received over 22 political heavyweights from the opposition parties and their supporters at the All Progressives Party zonal rally held in Kafanchan on Friday.

The event was witnessed by many APC supporters from Southern Kaduna and political stalwarts from across the state who passed a vote of confidence in Mr Sani’s administration.

The defectors comprised  serving and former federal legislators,  including lawmakers  from the state House of Assembly, former council chairmen, state party chairmen and standard bearers of the opposition parties.

Those who left the Peoples Democratic Party included Sen. Danjuma Laar, the immediate past senator who represented zone 3,   Godfrey Gaiya, a former House of Representatives member and Ado Audu, a three-term member of the House of Representatives.

The representative of Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, Amos  Magaji and  Donatus  Mathew,  another  member of the House of Representatives, representing Kaura Federal Constituency, also defected to the APC.

Others were state legislators such as Henry Zakarieh, representing   Jaba Constituency, Samuel Kambai from  Zango Constituency and Emmanuel Kantiok of  Zonkwa Constituency.

Also, the former Council   Chairman  of Jemaa Local Government, Mikiah Tokwak,  former Vice Chairman, Sunday Baba and former Chairman of Kauru Local Government, Paul Wani had joined the APC.

Similarly, a former PDP Chairman  in Kagarko Local Government, Shehu Tafarke, former NNPP state Chairman, Ben Kure and his successor, Nuhu Audu, including  the state chairman of the Labour Party, Isah Ciroma, are  now APC members.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sani said that the APC was now taking over Southern Kaduna which used to be the political enclave of PDP as his administration was anchored on justice.

According to the governor, he is abiding to the oath of his office by being just to every segment of the state, irrespective of party affiliations or ethno-religious backgrounds.

Mr Sani emphasised that after any election, politics should take the back seat while governance takes the centre stage, adding that such was the hallmark of leadership.

The governor said that the focus of his administration was to bring about peaceful coexistence to achieve even development, arguing that if there was no peace there would be no development.

He said that President Bola Tinubu was pleased with what has been happening in the state, saying, “He wants the state to be a model of peaceful coexistence and that is why he has been supporting it.’’

He stated that President Bola Tinubu told him three days ago, that  the  Kaduna Light Rail project and the Kwoi-Kafanchan road were in the 2025 budget.

RSIEC Receives Updated Voter Register From INEC: Rivers LG Elections

RSIEC receives updated Voter register from INEC: Rivers LG Elections. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has obtained the updated Register of Voters for Rivers State from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of its preparations for the August 9, 2025, Local Government Council Elections.

RSIEC Commissioner for Media & Civic Education, Pastor Taninotonye Tobins, also confirmed that the commission has secured the latest list of registered political parties in Nigeria.

According to a statement, these key documents were officially provided to RSIEC on March 13, 2025, following a formal request to INEC. The commission reassured the public of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections.

INEC’s Administrative Secretary, Odor Napoleon Emezuruike, in a response letter, confirmed that the commission had been authorized to provide a soft copy of the updated voters register and the list of registered political parties to RSIEC.

Jandor meets president Tinubu, Atiku, others amid ongoing consultations. The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has met with President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others as part of his ongoing political consultations following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party. His spokesperson, Gbenga Ogunleye, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Ogunleye said the meeting with the President was held on Monday. The statement read, “I can confirm that Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran Jandor met with President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

“He has earlier met with Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former President Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the SDP in the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, among other prominent national leaders. It is part of his ongoing consultation after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The National Secretary of the PDP and other leaders of the party also visited him recently to appeal for the reconsideration of his resignation from the PDP. “Dr Adediran will meet with his political associates and critical stakeholders in Lagos over the weekend and address the media by Monday, 17th March 2025.”

Jandor, who did not declare his next move, had earlier resigned from the PDP, citing indiscipline and anti-party activities.

He accused the PDP national leadership of disappointing him on the eve of the state’s governorship election, stating that he would have won but for a false claim of alliance, which made the PDP supporters in Lagos vote for another candidate.

Rivers INEC Releases Ipdated Voters Register, List Of Political Parties For LG Election

Rivers INEC releases updated voters register, list of political parties for LG election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the updated register of voters in Rivers State, along with the list of registered political parties in Nigeria, ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Council elections.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, and signed by the Administrative Secretary, Odor Napoleon Emezuiruke, INEC formally notified the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) of the release. The letter, addressed to the RSIEC Chairman, confirmed that a soft copy of the voters’ register had been provided in response to the commission’s request.

Following this development, RSIEC issued a press release announcing the receipt of the updated register from INEC Headquarters. The release, signed by the Commissioner in charge of Media & Civic Education, Tamunotonye Tobins, reassured stakeholders and the public of RSIEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections.
