Peter Obi vows to declare war on terrorists. Former Governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has said he would declare war on terrorists and reject negotiation as a response to insecurity if elected president.

Drawing on his record as Anambra State governor, he argued that decisive action can restore safety across Nigeria.

Obi made the comments in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, during a discussion focused on the country’s worsening security situation, including the recent killing of Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah and several soldiers in a Boko Haram/ISWAP attack in Benisheikh, Borno State.

“No nation will lose about 10 of its senior officers without a response. I will declare war on the terrorists. There is nothing like negotiation,” he said.

Obi said the approach that worked in Anambra during his tenure as governor remained the template he would apply nationally.

He recalled going directly to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to seek authority to act.

“I had to come here and tell President Obasanjo, this is what I want to do and you must allow me to do it,” he said, adding that the results were verifiable.

He named former army commander, Jarrell Enenche, and the late security officials John Haruna and Commissioner Bello as witnesses to the outcomes.

He cited a former Inspector-General of Police as confirmation that the strategy worked.

Obi argued, however, that military force alone was insufficient and that the roots of today’s insecurity lay in decades of policy failure.

“What you are seeing today is the cumulative effect of leadership failure over the years, erosion of governance, erosion of values, abandoning the youth, education, social trust, everything,” he said.

He outlined a two-track response: immediate decisive force combined with long-term institutional rebuilding.

“You start building while you are pushing. You bring governance, justice, people are punished if they do the wrong thing,” he said.

When the interviewer noted that he would need to become president to execute such plans, Obi did not dispute the point, pressing instead on the allies he would need and his commitment to front-line leadership.

He named northern political figures, including former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai and former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, among those he would work with, saying he intended to “be in the north.”

He ended with a direct pledge on leadership style. “I am not going to lead from the back. People will see, they will feel it.”

Police Partner NYSC For Corps Members Security

Police partner NYSC. The National Youth Service CPolice partner NYSCorps and the Nigeria Police Force have renewed their commitment to strenghten their cooperation aimed at improving the security of corps members across Nigeria.

According to a post from NYSC’s X handle on Tuesday, the pledge was made during a courtesy visit by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Nafiu congratulated the Inspector-General on his appointment and commended the police for ongoing reforms within the force.

He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration to ensure the safety of corps members, particularly in orientation camps and host communities.

“The police have been instrumental to the success of NYSC activities and programmes since its inception,” Nafiu said.

He called for improved security around corps members and NYSC facilities nationwide.

“We appeal for maximum security for Corps Members and NYSC officials within and outside the Orientation Camps,” he added.

Nafiu also raised concerns about security as the country approaches the 2027 general elections, urging proactive protection for corps members and their property.

“We equally solicit for protection of corps members and their properties, including Corps Lodges, strengtfor as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections,” he said.

He explained that the NYSC Act exempts members of the armed forces and paramilitary agencies from national service and called for further engagement on the issue.

“I would like to interface with the Management of the Police Academy to enable the NYSC issue certificates of exemption to graduates of the institution as is statutory,” he said.

In his response, the IG assured the NYSC of continued cooperation and commitment to protecting corps members nationwide.

He said the police already maintain records of corps lodges across the country to enable swift response when necessary.

“The police would continue to secure the scheme,” the IG said.

He also described the request on exemption certificates as welcome and pledged stronger collaboration between both institutions.

“The issue of exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy is a welcome development,” he said.

The inspector-general further assured all that the police would continue to work closely with the NYSC to enhance security and protect corps members throughout their service year.

Kano EFCC Applauds Collaboration With Customs

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kano Zonal Directorate, has lauded its collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, stressing that it has yielded impressive operational results and improved relationship between the two agencies.

This disclosure was made in Kano by the EFCC’s Acting Zonal Director, Kano Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1 Friday . S. Ebelo, while receiving students of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, who visited the Kano Directorate on an educational visit.

According to him, “Our collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service has led to the interception of smuggled goods, recovery of illicit funds, and arrest of high-profile economic offenders. The fight against illegal trade and money laundering requires that we understand each other’s operational frameworks. This visit is a step toward building a more formidable, coordinated response”.

He also stated that the visit, themed: “Customs Protect Society Through Effective Interagency Collaboration and Border Control”, underscored the critical role of seamless interagency collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders and economy. The delegation, comprising mid-level and senior officers of the NCS, was led by the Commandant of the College, Assistant Controller General of Customs, D. Gaura.

Speaking further on the visit, Ebelo emphasized that no single agency can effectively combat cross-border financial crimes, smuggling, and other economic sabotage without robust intelligence sharing and joint operations. He noted that the EFCC and NCS shared a common mandate in protecting the nation’s revenue and economic integrity.

In his remarks, Gaura commended the EFCC for its transparency and operational effectiveness. He explained that the study tour was designed to expose the students to the practical realities of interagency synergy, adding that modern Customs administration goes beyond cargo examination to include intelligence-driven financial investigations.

He stressed that Customs officers must understand how the EFCC tracks proceeds of smuggling, transborder crimes and how the two agencies can jointly disrupt the financial lifelines of organized cross-border crime. While emphasizing on the theme of the tour, Guara stated that the visit reflected his conviction that Customs’ protection of society is only fully realized when the service works hand-in-hand with the EFCC and other law enforcement bodies.

Highlights of the visit included a lecture session delivered by the Head of Visa Fraud Malpractice Section, Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Victor Ikang on the theme of the tour. Also featured in the tour was a question and answer session held between the students and the Acting Zonal Director on issues related to confiscated items linked to currency smuggling, money laundering and other financial crimes.

The students also participated in an interactive session on intelligence sharing protocols, joint investigation procedures, and legal frameworks governing interagency collaboration.
