Politicians Labelling Us Divisive Fear Accountability, Passion Not A Crime: Obidient Movement
Politicians labelling us divisive fear accountability, passion not a crime: Obidient Movement. The Obidient movement says attempts to brand its supporters as “divisive” distort the origins and objectives of the group.
On Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national publicity secretary, asked party supporters to back all presidential aspirants.
Abdullahi also asked supporters of the party’s presidential aspirants to desist from divisive politics.
Afterwards, a report surfaced describing “Obidients as a divisive mob” adding that they will ruin Peter Obi’s chances in the 2027 election — a comment the ADC spokesperson did not make.
However, in a statement on Sunday, Yunusa Tanko, its national coordinator, said the participation of Obidients in the ADC coalition is consistent with democratic principles that allow the aggregation of ideas, debate and the building of broader political alternatives.
“The participation of Obidients in the ADC coalition follows this same logic. Coalitions are meant to aggregate ideas, encourage debate, and build broader alternatives,” the statement reads.
“Joining a coalition does not require silence or blind loyalty. On the contrary, it demands active engagement, accountability, and scrutiny.
“A coalition that fears questioning voices is not one prepared to govern a complex society like Nigeria. Passion in politics is not a crime. In every functioning democracy, reform-driven movements are vocal because they are motivated by conviction rather than patronage.
“Nigeria itself has a history of far more aggressive and exclusionary political followings, many of which were normalised or even celebrated. Singling out Obidients today reveals discomfort with accountability rather than a sincere concern for unity.
“It is also misleading to portray the Obidient movement as a single, rigid bloc. Obidients are professionals, traders, students, civil servants, and Nigerians across regions and religions, united by simple demands for transparency, competence, and accountable leadership.

Obidient Movement
“Disagreeing with political opponents does not amount to hatred, and rejecting the status quo should not be framed as division.”
Tanko said claims that Obidients would “ruin” electoral chances misrepresent political realities, arguing that elections are decided by organisation, alliances, credibility and leadership rather than online activism.
“Blaming engaged citizens for political failure is an easy distraction from the harder work of governance,” the statement reads.
“Our commitment to the realization of a Peter Obi Presidency remains unshakable. We are convinced it represents the surest path to national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance.”
Tanko also called on Nigerians to remain resolute, united and focused as the country approaches a defining political moment.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) continues to advance operational readiness through specialized intelligence and security training designed to strengthen the capabilities of its special forces personnel in combating emerging security threats and protecting civilian lives.
In line with this effort, the Regiment Training Centre Annex (RTCA) Bauchi conducted a comprehensive training package on Intelligence and Security in Special Forces Operations for trainees of Special Forces Course 13/2026. Speaking during the engagement, the Commandant of RTCA Bauchi, Squadron Leader Lawrence Akpan, underscored the critical role of intelligence in the success of special operations, noting that effective intelligence supports mission planning, threat assessment, surveillance, target identification and force protection.
He emphasized that every special forces operator must possess sound knowledge of intelligence processes, operational security and information management to effectively execute assigned tasks.
In his lecture, the Command Intelligence Officer at Headquarters Special Operations Command, Squadron Leader E Miji, exposed the trainees to key areas of intelligence operations, including intelligence gathering techniques, surveillance and reconnaissance, counterintelligence, information analysis and operational threat assessment.
As part of the training, the participants engaged in practical exercises and simulated operational scenarios designed to test their analytical thinking, situational awareness and decision-making abilities under pressure.

The exercises provided valuable insight into the practical application of intelligence in special operations while reinforcing the importance of vigilance, professionalism and security consciousness in mission execution.
The initiative reflects the sustained commitment of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to building a highly skilled, mission-ready and combat-effective NAF capable of neutralising emerging threats, supporting counterinsurgency operations and safeguarding civilian lives and national security. Mr Otti said this on Sunday in Umuahia during an interdenominational thanksgiving service organised by the Abia government to commemorate his third anniversary in office.
“We started by taking the state to God in prayers and rededicated the state immediately after we were sworn in. Another vow we made is the one we are about to fulfil,” he said.
Mr Otti said that thanksgiving and worship remained a personal conviction for him and his family, adding that giving glory to God is necessary for the successes recorded by the administration.
Mr Otti announced plans to build a privately funded ecumenical centre in Umuahia. He said that he had already provided the land, which he acquired in 2009, long before he became governor, for the project.
