Nasarawa Residents Begs Tinubu Government To Set Up Abuja-Keffi Train Service
Nasarawa Residents Begs Tinubu Government To Set Up Abuja-Keffi Train Service
Nasarawa residents begs Tinubu Government to set up Abuja-Keffi train service. They said that this would offer citizens an alternative means of transportation.
Some residents of Keffi LGA of Nasarawa have appealed to the federal government to set up a train service linking Abuja to Keffi.
They said that this would offer citizens an alternative means of transportation. They made the appeal on Thursday in Keffi.
Since the commencement of the Abuja-Kaduna train service, some Nigerians plying the route had embraced the alternative transport means, thereby reducing the pressure on vehicular movement on that stretch.
Due to the proximity of Nasarawa to Abuja and with some civil servants preferring to live in cheaper houses in border communities bordering Nasarawa and Abuja, some of the respondents also believed it was not out of place to set up a train service for that corridor to ease the pressure on the highway linking both places.
They added that the move would create alternative transport means for citizens plying that axis, especially workers who had to get to their respective places of work as early as possible.
Segun Damisa, a commuter, said in Keffi that setting up the railway transport service for that route, would be a game-changer.
He added that it would also be a relief for commuters who suffered harrowing traffic gridlocks daily on their way to work in Abuja in the morning and back to their homes in Nasarawa later in the day.
âIf the train service is created for this place, it will change everything. It will reduce the suffering people are enduring every day on this Abuja-Keffi highway.
âPeople will go to work on time and return on time. There wonât be issues of any car failure and accidents will reduce. The train service will also help to reduce the constant gridlock on the road, as many people will leave their cars at home, leave the road and use the train.
âSo I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the federal government to work out a train route for this place. It will really go a long way for Nigerians,â he said.
Halima Adamu, a Keffi resident, also clamoured for the Abuja-Keffi train service, noting that it was a more secure means of transport compared to vehicular transportation.
âWe keep hearing of how criminals stop vehicles on the highway to steal from passengers and the numerous âone-chanceâ incidents we often hear. This is aside from the constant accidents on the road.
âBut with a train, there is more security. Although itâs not perfect. We heard about the derailment of a train from Abuja to Kaduna recently. So it is not perfect, but it is far safer than road transportation. So we really need it here and hope that the government will listen and take action,â she said.
Nwankwo Benedict said he wanted the train service, as he needed to also experience the success stories commuters of the Abuja-Kaduna train route had been experiencing.
He added that the construction of a railway line from Abuja to Keffi and in future to Lafia and Makurdi would facilitate easy transportation of goods, especially farm produce; hence, the call on the government to seriously consider the idea.

âA lot of people have been saying it is convenient, comfortable and reliable. I want the government to construct it here so that more Nigerians like myself can believe in and embrace train transportation for good.
âYou know we Nigerians rely heavily on road transportation, especially the poor and middle-class Nigerians, as air transport is too expensive.
Train transportation, according to the comments we have heard, will go a long way for this section of Nigerians.
âThe good thing is that because of the proximity of Nasarawa to Abuja, this project is doable and feasible and probably cheaper than the Abuja-Kaduna train service.
âFrom Abuja to Keffi will be probably 30 minutes or thereabouts and the impact on the transportation of people, goods and services, through that route will be massive. For me, it is going to be a win-win situation for the government and the people,â he explained.

Adwa Victory At 130: Ethiopia Marks Historic Triumph And Womenâs Day In Abuja
ABUJA, Nigeria â The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Abuja hosted a colourful celebration on Saturday, March 7, 2026, to mark the 130th Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa alongside International Womenâs Day.
The event, held under the themes âAdwa 130: From a Dark History to a Bright Horizon!â and â50 Years of Womenâs Voice for Equality and Prosperity,â brought together Ethiopians living in Nigeria, people of Ethiopian origin, and Nigerian friends of Ethiopia.
Delivering the keynote address, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Nigeria, H.E. Legesse Geremew Haile, described the Victory of Adwa as a historic milestone achieved through the collective sacrifice, unity, and determination of the Ethiopian people.
He emphasized that women played a crucial role in securing the historic victory over Italian forces in 1896, noting that their contributions remain a strong symbol of courage and patriotism.
The Ambassador also highlighted Ethiopiaâs progress in promoting gender equality, stating that women are increasingly occupying leadership positions in government, parliament, and the cabinet at both federal and regional levels.
Encouraging the younger generation to uphold the âSpirit of Adwa,â Ambassador Legesse urged Ethiopians at home and in the diaspora to contribute actively to the countryâs ongoing development efforts.
He outlined several key national initiatives, including modernizing the agricultural sector, where Ethiopia has recently emerged as Africaâs largest wheat producer, expanding industrial capacity through the âEthiopia Tamirtâ (Produce in Ethiopia) initiative, promoting tourism through the Gebeta projects, and advancing digital transformation through artificial intelligence to improve service delivery.
The Ambassador also addressed Ethiopiaâs strategic economic goals, calling for unified support for the countryâs pursuit of peaceful access to the sea, describing it as a vital national interest for a nation of over 130 million people with a rapidly growing economy.
According to him, Ethiopia remains committed to achieving this objective through peaceful and mutually beneficial diplomatic engagement.
Reaffirming the countryâs long-term development vision, Ambassador Legesse said Ethiopia aims to become one of Africaâs five largest economies by 2035 and among the worldâs top 20 economies by 2050. He therefore called on the Ethiopian diaspora to actively participate in the nationâs development initiatives and major projects.
The celebration also featured a presentation titled âThe Trust of Adwa: Unity, Sovereignty, and Reconstruction,â which highlighted the historic significance of the Battle of Adwa fought on March 1, 1896. The presentation underscored how Ethiopiaâs victory over the Italian army became a powerful symbol of African resistance, inspiring Pan-Africanism and anti-colonial movements across the continent and the diaspora.
Participants at the event described Adwa as a shared African victory, stressing that its legacy should continue to inspire present and future generations to work towards rebuilding their nations and strengthening the continent.
The programme was further enriched with patriotic poetry and educational video presentations performed by young children.
The ceremony began with the Ethiopian National Anthem and concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting and reception attended by guests and members of the Ethiopian community in Nigeria.
